preemptiveforgiveness: (Listening)

At least they're in agreement on that. Matt is all about tackling a feasible space, something that won't overwhelm him or leave him hopeless. Some nights, it seems like Hell's Kitchen isn't getting any better and on those nights, he needs to focus on the people he's saved; people like the woman that he's with now.

Josie isn't sweet to anyone else, but Matt and Foggy have earned her sweetness and by extension their friends have earned it as well. Besides, it's likely that Josie sees Katniss as a wounded bird as well and she wants to help her fix those wings just like Matt, Karen and Fogg do. For them, alcohol isn't a fix for anything, temporary or otherwise. It's just a way to relax, a way to let off some steam from the week. He's glad that Katniss doesn't mind it.

Indeed it is. It's also what's important. As she's discovered, physical intimacy is easy and, in Matt's experience, everything turns out to be worth exactly as hard as it is. He's figured that out about her and he likes that it doesn't take much to get a reaction out of her. It makes him feel proud in some way.

He nods in agreement. "I know," he tells her in a whisper, reaching up to tuck a loose strand of hair behind her ear that he only sort of realizes is there. She doesn't have to do anything about his arousal. He'll survive just fine. This is about so much more than sex. He tips his head up to place a soft, gentle kiss against her mouth. "And you are to me. I love you, Katniss Everdeen."
