January 11 - Voice
Of all the things she does expect to hear from him, this is one of the last statements. Johanna's moved into his apartment? Johanna? She has no claim over him, no ties to him that are like what they once were. But she still feels a surge of jealousy. Jealously and hurt.]
What?
no subject
But... she hasn't left yet.
no subject
But it didn't make the jealousy any easier. She remained quiet for a little bit longer, eyeing the book.]
Why not?

I don't know. Maybe she hasn't found anywhere else to stay yet. Maybe she's just a fan of my baking.
[He gives a short, self-deprecating laugh. It's a joke, Katniss. A half-hearted one, but a joke nonetheless.]
I don't know. But I thought it'd be better if you heard it from me.

Still, she attempts to grin weakly at his joke even if it doesn't exactly show through the journals. Better she smile than let her true emotions show. Give any indication to Peeta how this sort of hurts her.]
I... appreciate it. [A beat.] Are you baking regularly again?

[It's disorienting and sometimes painful, looking back through those memories that don't belong to him. Watching Katniss try to convince her friends what a horrible person she is. Watching himself and Katniss, happy. Together.]
I'm thinking about asking Aang for a job at the bakery.

[She has no doubt about that. Aang hadn't necessarily remembered when Peeta ran the shop, but Katniss had mentioned it enough that he knew. Even if the boy didn't know, he was still Aang. Too nice, too caring to be friends with the likes of her. And yet he persisted.
He'd be all too happy to help Peeta out, if just knowing how much Peeta meant to her.]
It'd be good. You baking. I've... [There's nothing embarassing about what she's about to say and yet, she blushes anyway. Is it giving away too much? Letting him know how much she really cares?] I've missed your cheese buns.
