[psl] itinere based

She sits on the blanket she brought to beach, staring at the surf as it crashes on to the shore. It reminds her a little of the brief time she had spent in District 4 during the Victory Tour. But instead of Peeta here keeping her company, a boy she hasn't seen for months and is starting to wonder if she'll ever see again, she's waiting for someone else. In the time she's spent in Itinere, she hasn't made many friends. That doesn't bother her, though. She likes the people she's gotten to know. Besides, her full reason for staying is her sister.

It had come as a little bit of a surprise when Peter suggested a picnic by the water. She rarely spent much time by the water, preferring to hide in the forest when not in town. Now, she's wondering why. It is kind of pretty out here and the smell of the sea air is kind of relaxing. Coming early had been a good idea.

Peter is a New York City boy at heart. His misses the city, the people and the thrum of life that seems to infuse everything about New York City. However, he's been here long enough (and he's enough of an optimist) that he's learned to embrace the uniqueness of this sleepy little town. At first he'd tried desperately to through the doors; he'd needed to save the world. He'd saved the cheerleader, but there was still a mess of a world out there that needed super heroes because it definitely had a super villain. There were days he was still desperate to get home, but more and more he's settling here. He's got friends and he's met people he cares about; people like Katniss. He didn't know how he cared about her yet and he knew he probably shouldn't. Peter is spectacularly unlucky in relationships. He always has been. He's not putting any expectations on this relationship. Besides, Katniss is young and he knows that. She's also far more fragile than she realizes. They're friends. That'll work, right?

The beach is one of Peter's favorite places in Itinere. The ocean gives him the same sort of small feeling that the City gives him. It reassures him of his place in the world, even in this world. Peter arrives a little late, crooked grin a bit bashful and floppy hair falling over his eyes. He's got a basket with him full of picnic food: fried chicken, cold pasta salad and fresh fruit mostly. He's also got a bottle of red wine because he's Italian and the Petrelli's like their stereotypes. He did bring a few bottles of water in case Katniss didn't want to drink the wine. He waves when he sees her, setting the basket down on the edge of the blanket. "Hi...am I late or are you early?"

Because he didn't want to start this afternoon out by screwing up.
