Effie wanted to scream at her. You've thrown yourself off the heights. You had them. They LOVED you.

Now the girl whom everyone Effie knew adored and respected and admired had just opened a door to shame, humiliation...maybe even physical violence. Effie had found herself the subject of such attacks because of what she was and where she was from. Katniss, she had just begun to realize, had something SPECIAL -- something better. She exuded some charisma that made Lucetians take notice and honor her. Heroism, maybe.

Effie Trinket had not one shred of heroism in her body. She felt in awe of Katniss's, sometimes. Especially with Prim now living in the house and becoming more and more of a person to the Chaperone every day. No matter how much she resisted, Prim was a person.

Oh, how jealous she'd been on lonelier nights, thinking on the sisters' bond of personhood...of their someoneness. Even Sharpe had it to a degree. Here, they were someones. She was a reviled and threatened nobody. And Katniss would RISK that?

There was muffled banging over the journal as Effie chucked it aside and stumbled down the hall to Katniss's room. She thumped on the door.
